4ORTIES and 8IGHTIES, MOTHER and DAUGHTER Exhibition series

Since its establishment, OHH Dear Communications has focused on promoting active ageing, encouraging seniors to adopt a positive and proactive attitude towards life. The studio also believes this approach can spark curiosity and awareness among younger generations, thereby fostering and strengthening intergenerational communication.

In 2024, OHH Dear Communications became a project partner of the hill workshop’s community art exhibition series titled “4ORTIES and 8IGHTIES, MOTHER and DAUGHTER.” Together, we co-curated a series of mother-daughter themed exhibitions: the “Siu Lan’s Tailoring” exhibition (held in June 2024 at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre), the interactive market “Pak Ngon Dong” (September 2024 at the Jao Tsung-I Academy), and the “Pulling and Tugging” exhibition (October 2024 at POINTSMAN Artspace).

The project originated from the initiative of the hill workshop’s director, Vangi Fong, who wished to organise an exhibition for her mother Siu Lan, a market stall tailor known as “Siu Lan Tailoring.” The first exhibition explored Siu Lan’s life journey - from her birth in Shantou in the 1940s, her migration to Hong Kong in the 1980s, to her stall at the hipster market since the 2010s - and the evolving mother-daughter relationship within that context.

The project later expanded to openly recruit daughters from diverse backgrounds and ages, using their mothers as the central theme. It developed into an interactive market and exhibitions, complemented by workshops and activities extending from themes of motherhood and family. Over six months, the three exhibitions and their associated events, lasting a total of 26 days, attracted nearly 2,000 visitors and close to 300 participants.
