Ask Granny Community Art Exhibition in Oil Street Art Space (Oi!)

Nowadays, communication between generations, especially between young people and their grandparents, has weakened. Misunderstandings are common, leading to miscommunications and even animosity. This issue not only negatively impacts families but also has broader societal and political consequences.

OHH Dear Communications, a senior model and marketing agency founded by a post-80s young person, is dedicated to promoting and encouraging cross-generational communication. We have observed that young people often turn to their friends rather than their (grand)parents when facing life challenges. However, we believe that the elderly possess valuable life experiences and inspirations for the younger generation, which are worth considering. Having once been young themselves, the elderly have likely faced similar challenges that young people face today. With this in mind, OHH Dear initiated the community art exhibition "Ask Granny" as part of the "Our Living Library" project. The exhibition took place at Oil Street Art Space (Oi!) in September 2022.

Using question cards as a tool, OHH Dear interviewed 20 elderly ranging in age from 57 to 76 to gather their views, suggestions, and experiences when navigating life's ups and downs. The questions covered three categories: life, relationships, and daily life. The recorded interviews were then summarized and presented as short Q&A format videos during the exhibition. Our aim was to encourage young people to listen to and consider the suggestions provided by the elderly when facing challenges or setbacks in life.

The two-week exhibition attracted approximately 4,000 visitors. We are continuing our "Ask Granny" journey by organizing pop-up stalls in community spaces and weekend markets, and we are also preparing for the "Ask Granny" publication project.
