“Joyful Studio” Community Art Project

According to a global study conducted by the Happiness Research Institute on happy memories, people tend to be happier when they maintain a positive perspective on their past. Most individuals recall significant, emotional, and engaging experiences, often preserving these joyful memories through the medium of photographs. With this belief, OHH Dear Communications collaborated with Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation to launch “Joyful Studio” community art project in 2021 and 2022.

In 2022, we organized a two-week exhibition at the Link REIT shopping malls in districts with a high elderly population. The exhibition featured a photo retouch studio, an old photo exhibition, and a pop-up photography studio. By providing instant retouch services for the elderly, we aim to encourage them to revisit their happy and meaningful life moments and develop a positive perspective on their past.

Old photos hold great value for society as they document scenes from old Hong Kong and reflect the lives of people in the past. Believing so, we curated a photo exhibition with a happy childhood theme, showcasing old photos collected through an open call and taken from the 1950s to the 1970s. To enhance interaction, we also set up a pop-up photography studio with a nostalgic backdrop. Free portrait services were provided for the elderly and their families.

In 2022, the two-week "Joyful Studio" community art project successfully attracted over 9,000 visitors, with approximately 1,000 elderly individuals enjoying the old photo retouching and studio portrait services.
