Generation Kitchen Community Project in Oil Street Art Space (Oi!)

In 2024, OHH Dear Communications curated the "Cozy Community Project: Generations Kitchen" at Oi! Street Art Space’s Oi! Kitchen. The year-long project brought diverse generations together through community art exhibitions and public workshops centered around shared flavors and cherished memories.

At the heart of the project was artist Uncle Yuen (Yuen Che Hung), who led 13 seniors in creative writing workshops focused on their favorite home-cooked dishes. Their memorable recipes and stories were subsequently showcased at Oi! Kitchen. Building on these culinary memories, the project featured six public workshops that explored themes of family, heritage, and flavor with nearly 80 participants.

Key highlights included: “Mum’s Treasure: Salted Mandarin Workshop” – Explored mother-daughter relationships while pickling local mandarins alongside a local farmer; “Kitchen Secrets” – Facilitated parent-child storytelling through interactive theatrical games led by Uncle Yuen; “Generations Lemon” – Collaborated with local agricultural initiative Fruitable Hong Kong to brew kombucha that connected intergenerational palates; “Canned Memory” – Used preservation jars as a creative medium to reflect on and organize family relationships.

A standout feature of the exhibition was the "Signature Drink of Life" activity, which highlighted aged salted mandarin as its key ingredient. Visitors were invited to complete a "Life Components Label"—comparing their personal journeys to the six taste profiles of sweet, sour, bitter, spicy, salty, and fresh—in exchange for a custom mandarin drink. The activity was a resounding success, attracting over 10,000 participants and earning media coverage from Sing Tao Daily, Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), and U Lifestyle HK.
